I have conducted both the Rochester Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony for many years at the Bravo! Vail music festival held in July and August in Vail, Colorado. In my early years there I met President Gerald Ford and former First Lady Betty Ford several times. Betty Ford was a lover of gardens and nature. I was inspired to write this pastoral piece in her honor after spending time in The Betty Ford Alpine Garden and also hiking through the beautiful Colorado mountains with fields of wildflowers and singing birds which are represented musically in this composition.
