This concerto was written for my good friend and timpanist Charles “Chip” Ross. The concerto features the timpani as a percussive and melodic instrument in a wide variety of styles including contemporary, jazz and Latin idioms. It was recently performed by the U.S. Marine Band “The Presidents Own” with Dr. David W. Constantine as soloist.
